How the operation fails

Anton extracts what he can and tries to remain a function. After the first real procedure-adjacent operation he cannot. He uses the one-way transmitter. He is willing to forfeit the German reward. Keller eventually agrees to pull him — after a few more days of playing along.

The supervisor has already seen the change. A wiretap is in place before he understands that the private meeting is not a secret. In her apartment she drops the mask: she knows the cover, the abort, the damage. She gives her name anyway. She wants out with him.

He asks Keller to take her. Keller refuses. Anton answers that if she cannot go, he will not go. That answer means more to her than the cover name ever did.

They run. They do not make the distance. He keeps her out of the transmitter record and out of his mouth. Lack of proof is the only reason she is still in the room when he recognizes the smell of the facility again.

HIM-S completes under a replacement technician. Memory goes. The unit that remains follows the supervisor’s commands. She is present, then wrong, then gone. The building files her in the language buildings use: closed for evidence, inactive, no longer on the corridor. The game never names the last fact. Other readings are allowed to starve.
